Inspirational and fun Christmas Advent Calendar for Kids

My two year old loves Curious George and on the Christmas episodic the man in the yellow hat makes a count down to Christmas for George. I instantly loved the idea, then while scrolling through Instagram I saw small shop mom boss Stephanie Hathaway post about her her freebie of Christmas flower themed advent calendar tags she designed. Stephanie is a fellow homeschool mom who creates these amazing lessons and bundles for your home. I recently bought her  Daily rhythm bundle and weather bundle to use for the  boys chore charts and morning lessons! Cant wait to share that with you soon.

Anyway Stephanie had an awesome idea that instead of a gift advent calendar she made more of an inspirational advent calendar using the beautiful cards she had made. She simply printed out the cards and on the back wrote something inspirational for her son on the back! So for our advent calendar I wanted to combine the gift calendar and non-gift calendar.

Here is what I came up with.

2. I wrote an inspirational thing to say to my boys OR something Christmas themed for us to actually do! I took events from our printable Christmas bucket list! You can find that in this post.

3. For the little baggy behind the card I just simply put a piece of chocolate for each of the boys inside and pinned it to some twine to hang on our wall!

4. I ended using some tiny ornaments and a gold star we had bought last year from Walmart for a little tree the boys decorated to hang with the calendar for a finishing look.

So far this Advent Calendar is perfect for the boys to see how many days left till Christmas AND to see how much we love them and how proud we are of them each day.

Christmas Bucket List

The fall season is almost over, that means Christmas is right around the corner and if you’re like me you have already started decorating for the holidays and playing the most wonderful music ever. So this year I wan to do some of the extra Holiday / Winter type activities with the whole family so I made a list and printed it off to hang on our fridge. Each one we get to do I’ll have one the boys check it off!  I made this list printable for you all too! I’m going to update which things we check off over on our Instagram . Fingers crossed we get to do each one, but living in Florida the snow activities will be a challenge to complete.

30 Weeks with Madeline

Finally able to update on our little bundle of joy coming this January. The past few weeks have been crazy, I have been having some breathing problems doing about anything. My doctor referred us to a cardiologist which had me do a Echo cardiogram and a heart monitor for 24 hours to find out I have a mild case of Cardiomegaly which leads to shortness of breath and hopefully will be gone after I have Madeline. . I’ve also been having some family emergency’s going on, So updating on here as been on the back burner.
Highlights: 
  • Decorating her room and getting everything ready! 
  • Madeline is looking great on Ultrasound! 
  • Her Heartbeat is strong! 
Lowlights:
  • Restless legs when I’m trying to sleep is the worst
  • Having Braxton Hicks almost daily. 
  • Cardiologist says I have Cardiomegaly (Enlargement of the heart) 
Weight Gain/Loss:  13 weeks: 170 17 weeks: 165  27 weeks: 175 30 weeks: 180
Sleep: Wake up constantly
Best Moment This Week: 
Finally got into Dr. Smith which is the Doctor I had with the boys and I feel so much more at ease!
Movement: Madeline has been kicking me like crazy right before bed.
Food Cravings: Sweet things like fruit.
What I Miss: Having any kind of energy.
Mood: Emotional and cranky
Upcoming Appointments/Events: Coming up I have start going to the doctor every 2 weeks starting the 18th. We have a lot of Events going on this month with Bentley’s  birthday and were hosting a Friendsgiving dinner and hosting Thanksgiving  this year.

What I look forward to:  This whole month of fun and family time!

DIY Madeline Book Banner

Were finally getting our girl, and I have always adored the name Madeline from the books as a child. When James agreed to the name I was ecstatic! Unfortunately there is not a lot of Madeline rooms out there that I could find. Finding some decor ideas was a bit of a challenge, I did however see a recent picture of someone who was selling a vintage book banner and it gave me an idea for her room! I previously had an old ripped up Madeline Book and just never felt the will to throw it away.

What you will need:

Madeline Book

Scissors

Pencil

Whole punch

Twine or ribbon

Directions:

1. Carefully take all the pages, and pick out the pages that you feel will look best!

2. I decided to cut down the pages to all one size , I chose a page that was the perfect size I had in mind and use it as a template to cut out the rest of the pages down to its size.

3. After you have traced and cut, Put the pages in desired order that looks best to you! I put mine in semi order what how the book went.

4. Then take the whole punch a place one whole on either side of a page at the top.

5. Take your twine or ribbon a feed it through the whole punches wholes in desired order you had laid out.

6. Hang up the banner and enjoy!

Honestly super simple project, and it’s the perfect fit for a Madeline inspired nursery, or any book inspired nursery.

The Bindscheattel family has some exciting news! If you are follow our Instagram or Facebook page, you are already caught up with our great news.

So to get you all caught up, In January of 2020 we are expecting another little Bindscheattel to arrive! I’m currently 17 weeks and this has been the worst pregnancy, between the sickness and loss of energy, it has been a big difference from the last two. So like I did with Leo, I’m going to do updates every few weeks on how everything is going with Baby! This is also a great way to document everything going on for the future!

Highlights: 
  • Found out the gender! 
  • Baby is looking great on Ultrasound! 
  • Heartbeat is strong! 
Lowlights:
  • Haven’t had an appetite 
  • Barely getting sleep
  • Doctor is sending me to a Cardiologist for breathing troubles.  
Weight Gain/Loss:  13 weeks: 170 17 weeks: 165
Sleep: Wake up constantly
Best Moment This Week:

Foodie Friday: Breakfast of Champions

Happy Foodie Friday everyone!

Every week on Friday I bring you a fun, delicious meal your kids could love! This week I’m bringing you the breakfast of champs to celebrate The Superbowl on Sunday! This recipe will be so easy and simple to whip up! Todays Recipe is the Breakfast of Champions Waffle Taco.

Foodie Friday: Breakfast of Champions Waffle Tacos 

What you will need: 

  • Waffle/Pancake mix or frozen waffles
  • Eggs
  • Sausage
  • Bacon
  • Cheese
  • Maple Syrup

Instructions:

  1.  Fix the waffles Frozen of Made by the directions on the box. Set aside
  2. Mix eggs with Milk on a medium skillet until you’ve made scrambled eggs. Set aside
  3. On a separate skillet make Sausage or Bacon
  4. Take a Waffle, and fill the middle with eggs and Bacon/Sausage.
  5. Then Sprinkle some cheese on it
  6. Fold like a taco. If you made a lighter softer waffle use a toothpick to hold taco together
  7. Drizzle Maple syrup over the taco for extra fun!

Foodie Friday: Kid Favorite Strawberry Shortcake

Well hello, beautiful people, its Foodie Friday, the day of the week where we make a delicious kid-friendly and kid-approved recipes and share it with you! As you can tell by the title this is going to be about a fruity treat!

Storytime: My parents took my brothers and me to the Florida Strawberry Festival one year, and of course what you get at the Florida Strawberry Festival is the Strawberry Shortcake! The Florida Strawberry Festival this year is from February 28th to March 10th, its jam-packed with lots of fun rides, some awesome concerts at night, some shopping, and most of all tons and tons of delicious food.

I wanted to get a head start on all of the yummy treats and make something special for the kids I knew they would love to make it and love to eat it. I can’t remember where I found this recipe but the kids and my husband sure do love it, and will always be something we can make together!

Foodie Friday: Strawberry Shortcake

Cook Time:1 hr 
Total Time:1 hr 40 minutes
Servings: 6

What you will Need

For the Shortcakes

  • 2 Cups All-purpose Flour
  • 1/2 cup freeze-dried strawberries
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon kosher salt
  • 6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cut into small pieces
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream, plus more for brushing
  • 1 Large egg

For the Filling

  • 6 Cups strawberries ( about 1 3/4 pounds),
  • hulled and halved or quartered
  • 1/4  Cup granulated sugar
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 1/4 cup freeze-dried strawberries
  • 1 Cup cold heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup confectioners sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Instructions 

 

  1. Make the shortcakes: Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Pulse the flour, freeze-dried strawberries, granulated sugar, baking powder and salt in a food processor until the strawberries are crushed. Add the butter and pulse until it is in pew sized pieces. Whisk the heavy cream and egg in a small bowl. Pulsing constantly, drizzle the cream mixture into the flour mixture; pulse until the dough comes together. Transfer to a medium bowl and knead 3 or 4 times.
  2. Scoop 6 balls of dough ( about 1/2 cup each) onto the prepared baking sheet using a measuring cup or Ice cream scoop, spacing the dough 2 to 3 inches apart. Refrigerate until firm, about 30 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Lightly brush each ball of dough with heavy cream and sprinkle with sugar. Bake until a golden brown and toothpick inserted into the centers come out clean, 20 to 25 minutes. Let cool 10 minutes on the baking sheet, then transfer to a rack to finish cooling.
  4. Meanwhile, make the filling. Puree 2 cups strawberries in a blender until smooth. ( You should have about 1 cup puree) Toss the remaining 4 cups strawberries with the 1/2 cup of the strawberry puree, the granulated sugar, and lemon juice; cover and refrigerate until ready to use.
  5. Crush or finely chop the freeze-dried strawberries until powdery; transfer to a large bowl and add the heavy cream and confectioners sugar. Beat with a mixer on medium high speed untill stiff peeaks form. Add the vanilla and beat until combined. Gently fold in the remaining 1/2 cup strawberry puree. Refrigerate until ready to use.
  6. Split each shortcake and fill with the strawberries and whipped cream.

It’s one heck of a recipe and it’s always a mess for us but I promise you it will not disappoint! We hope you enjoy, What are some favorite treats they have at a festival near you? Share in the comments below!

Foodie Friday: Kid Friendly Meatloaf

It’s Foodie Friday!  A new fun thing that will be happening every Friday here at Raising Lost Boys. I will be sharing some kind of delicious, fun, kid-friendly meals, snacks or desserts with you guys! I am truly excited to start this in hopes to help one of you find that perfect meal that your kids will love!

Todays Foodie Friday Recipe is none other than mouth-watering Meatloaf. I know what you’re thinking ” Jessica How will my kids love meatloaf?” Well, the answer is simple. Make it kid size. Read the recipe below to find out!

Kid Friendly Meatloaf

Cook Time:40 minutes
Total Time:40 minutes
Servings 12 -18 Mini Meatloafs 

Ingredients

  • 1 pound Ground Beef or Ground Turkey
  • 1/2 cup Fine Bread Crumbs
  • 2 Egg
  • 1/4 cup Milk
  • 1 Onion Really finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper
  • 1 Cup shredded Cheddar Cheese
  • Ketchup for Topping
  • Muffin Tin

Instructions

  • Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl except the ground beef.
  • Let the mixture sit a few minutes so the breadcrumbs absorb some of the liquid.
  • Add the ground beef to the breadcrumb mixture and mix well.
  • Form into balls and place the balls in the greased muffin tin.
  • Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes or until cooked through.
  • Add a sprinkle of Shredded Cheese to the top of each mini meatloaf and cook for additional 3-5 minutes or until cheese is melted.
  • Drizzle or Drench with ketchup (whichever your kids prefer)
  • And Serve and enjoy!

The kids will love that the meatloaf is the perfect size just for them, and being covered in delicious cheese is just an added bonus! If you try this recipe let us know in the comments how your kids liked it!

Easy Pumpkin Cinnamon Playdoh

It’s finally feeling like fall here in Florida, so it gave me some inspiration to make some new fall projects for the kids! One Major sensory project I love to make is Playdoh! Bentley loves to sit and squish it between his fingers and make snowmen out of them, and it even lasts for a few months so it’s a perfect seasonal project!

Today  I want to share with you my recipe for so easy fall cinnamon playdoh that Bentley had a blast with and smells so good.

Easy Pumpkin Cinnamon Playdoh

 

What you will need:

  • 2 Cups of All Purpose Flour
  • 1 cup Salt
  • 2-3 drops of Cinnamon Essential Oil (optional)
  • 2 Tablespoons of Cream of Tartar
  • 2 Tablespoons of Coconut oil (or Vegetable oil)
  • 2 Tablespoons of Cinnamon
  • 2 Tablespoons Pumpkin Spice
  • 1 1/3 Hot Boiling Water

Directions:

  1. Mix all Dry ingredients together in a mixing bowl
  2. Slowly and carefully Stir in Water
  3. When a good base has formed move to counter and knead until fully mixed.
  4. Let sit and cool down
  5. Pull out some cookie cutters and rolling pins and let the fun begin!

This is such a simple and easy recipe and great for sensory activities. Just store in an airtight container and store at room temperature and it should last 3-4 months! Here are some of the Rolling pins and Cookie cutters we used, The kids love the different designs on them!
